Cosmetics Series: My Favorites: Foundation

I have more that I want to cover with the skin care series, but I want to talk about makeup as well. I have a decent collection myself, and I wanted to start this series with my favorites.

Favorite foundations:

MAC Face and Body

If you are as into makeup as I am, or if makeup is how you make your living, it should not be a surprise that this is at the top of my list of foundations. It gives a sheer coverage that you can build to a medium coverage. It also does not rub off on clothes, making it one of the most popular foundations to use on the body. It is a very liquid formula, and the bottle needs to be shaken before you use it. This is what I use when I want to take selfies when I experiment with makeup looks and I don’t need to go out after I finish, since it doesn’t have an SPF in it. SPF can make your face shiny in photos, so a foundation with no SPF helps me control the shine.

I usually just put some powder on my T zone and leave the rest of my face alone when I wear this if the humidity is bad. If you want a lighter foundation that won’t sweat onto your clothing, this is a safe bet.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation with SPF 50

This is expensive, but it is my favorite tinted moisturizer that actually covers like a foundation. I use this for when I am spending a few hours outdoors when it is sunny and I want to wear makeup with a strong SPF in it. IT Cosmetics also puts anti-aging ingredients into their products, and since I’m 38, that’s a great bonus for me. It is one of two tinted moisturizers that I use that does not make me break out.

Covergirl Smoothers Tinted Lightweight BB Cream

This is the first moisturizer that has SPF I have tried that does not make me breakout. I discovered it way back when I was around 20, and I go back to it over and over. If you are looking for a doupe to the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation tinted moisturizer, this is the closest you are going to get. You can build up the product to a light coverage, it is very moisturizing, has an SPF of 15, and it is what I use when I am out for a long period of time under the sun. I can apply it over and over and since I have rosecea, my cheeks can get pretty red under the sun, and it doesn’t make me break out when I have to reapply it while I am outside. If I am really “out there” under the sun doing anything that makes me sweaty, I use this because it is so cheap and I can use this with waterproof mascara (I also always curl my lashes), my eyebrow pencil, and some sort of lip balm with an SPF in it.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Aging Perfector Tinted Facial Moisturizer and Retinol Treatment with Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Sunscreen with Titanium Dioxide

This is something that I will mix with MAC Face and Body when I am going out and don’t want to wear too much foundation. The extra anti-aging skin care is a bonus.

Kat Von Dee Lock It Tattoo Foundation

This is a foundation that I purchased hoping it would be the best foundation for when it gets really humid during the summer months in New Jersey. It definitely is the most coverage I’ve seen from a foundation. I ordered a shade that was too dark for me and it does not have a SPF so I mix this with a lighter tinted moisturizer I found on Amazon: Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42.

Skin Care Series: Best Products for Wrinkles

I am 38 years old and I have noticed that I officially have fine lines under my eyes. I started using Clinique All About Eyes Rich about two months ago.

I have noticed results under my eyes since I started using this. For a 1 oz container, a little goes a long way.

However, I have noticed a lot of dermatologists say that you have to switch up a lot of the skin care products you use (except maybe a cleanser) because your skin gets used to the ingredients and you stop getting the results you wanted. Once this eye cream runs out, I am going to try another brand, one that across the board packs the best punch for people on a budget like myself:

Neutrogina’s Rapid Wrinkle Repair collection:

(click the image to buy it on amazon)

I am going to get this for my Mom to use and then when I run out I’ll switch to this. I already have a day cream coming my way via Groupon. I still can’t believe how much I’ve saved on expensive skin care using that site (and Honey for extra money off).

I am also going to write about the serum I have my Mom using right now so everyone can see the progress that was made from it.

Skin Care Series: Face Masks

I started using face masks in high school. I am part Irish and rather pale, so I never went tanning (like a lot of Jersey girls do) and I continue to try to keep myself out of the sun as much as possible. It is a big reason why my skin now looks so good for my age (38).

I want to share with you my favorite face masks:

1). Neutrogena Clear Skin Cleanser/Mask: (It is sold in packs on amazon or you can usually find them at your local drug store/chemist for around $10)

I discovered this mask in high school and have been using it off and on for the last 20 years. It is an awesome mask to have on hand if you are a woman particularly, because the amount of benzoyl peroxide really helps with preventing hormonal acne (which I get to this day). This really helps me keep cystic acne at bay.

2). Anything by Freeman/Freeman Beauty

This is the best drug store/chemist skin care line that I have ever tried. Right now I am loving their Cosmic Peel Off Gold mask. It is really brightening because it contains grapefruit, and gets the sebum out of my pores (so do charcoal masks, but I don’t really like using them because I don’t really get blackheads badly enough, and they are too harsh on my skin). I use this as an exfoliant I follow this up with my witch hazel toner, hyaluronic acid and a moisturizer (I am going to be adding a new day moisturizer for the days I don’t want to wear my tinted moisturizer, but that’s a blog for another time). I will also be trying Freeman Beauty’s Infusion Pomegranate peel-off mask once I am out of the Cosmic Peel Off Gold mask.

3). Biotique Bio Pistachio face pack: I always put this on after I do my peel-off mask. I use this more often in the winter. It has a lot of natural oils in it and is the only mask that deeply moisturizes and isn’t so heavy that it causes breakouts.

4). Bio Republic Sheet Masks

I do not have a diverse knowledge of sheet masks at all, but this is the first company that really blew me away. Their masks (especially their cucumber mask) are so cooling and refreshing. I buy them during the summer when it is really hot because sitting in an air conditioned room with their cucumber mask on my face is just everything to me. They have a great range and the sheets are drenched in serum, so you can utilize it for other things, like a quick face massage. I massage my neck, chest, and hands with the leftover serum. You don’t have to wash your face afterwards because the serums they put in their masks evaporate on their own. This is perfect for when you are feeling your skin looks sallow in the winter or too flushed in the summer. It is definitely a brand I cannot live without.
